Gyro Tech® Automatic Doors Reduce Energy Loss and
Increase Safety at Food Service Warehouse
MUSKEGO, WISCONSIN A national food service supplier to restaurants and institutions nationwide had installed three typical nylon strip doors leading into the cooler area at their Milwaukee warehouse. The strip doors allowed a huge influx of energy from the rest of the facility into the cooler area, and the subsequent sweating due to thermal heat transfer created slippery wet floors. The challenge was to find a suitable automatic door that fit their tall, twelve-foot clear vertical doorways and provided good thermal insulating properties.John Cianciolo, V. P. of Engineering for NABCO Entrances' Gyro Tech® product line solved the problem by speccing two bi-parting and one Telescoping HD GT 1175 Heavy Duty Whisper Sliders. According to John, "The HD GT 1175 Whisper Slider is an extra tough sliding door with a heavy-duty capacity motor-gear box and medium stiles specifically developed to accommodate heavier doors under high traffic conditions. It was ideal for this situation."
To reduce the cooling loss and eliminate the sweating, the bottom panel was an insulated aluminum sandwich. The stiles and horizontals were foam-filled to minimize convective heat transfer. The combination provided a good thermal break between areas of the warehouse.
Stainless steel kick plates at the bottom of the doors and stainless steel edge guards on the leading edge of the sliding panels provided the extra toughness needed to withstand the warehouse environment.
The HD GT 1175 Heavy Duty is part of the Whisper Slider series of versatile, heavy-duty sliding doors with whisper-like operation and dependable performance. It is available in single and bi-parting configurations to accommodate virtually any door opening.
